5S329 is the first 1965 Shelby GT 350 in the 30 year history of the Mustang Club of America to receive both a Gold level thoroughbred award and an ultra rare "Certificate of Authenticity" award! These prestigious awards were recently bestowed upon 5S329 at the 2005 MCA Grand National.
How rare is it for the MCA to award both a thoroughbred Gold and an "Certificate of Authenticity" award? As of this writing only six Mustangs exist in the world today that have had this award bestowed upon them.
In order for a Mustang to receive a Gold level MCA thoroughbred award it must be EXACTLY like it was when it rolled off the assembly line with all the parts on the car date coded prior to when the car was built and all the parts must be original or new old stock (NOS)and the restoration quality must significantly exceed that of a concours Gold level trailered Mustang. In other words the Mustang must be of museum quality where every part and component has either been meticulously restored or replaced by new old stock.
As time past fewer and fewer Mustangs could be restored to true Thoroughbred Gold levels, simply because the original correct date coded and NOS parts no longer existed. So the MCA created the "Certificate of Authenticity award" for the incredibly few Mustangs that were able to be restored with 100% original NOS and date code correct parts and impossible to find parts such as original tires, exhaust and the battery. In order to receive the coveted and prestigious "Certificate of Authenticity" award a Mustang must first receive a Thoroughbred Gold award then be rejudged for the "Certificate of Authenticity" award.
This special Shelby also has it's original engine and drivetrain along with a ton of documentation. Documentation includes such impossible to find items as the original not a reproduction 1965 GT 350 Shelby owners supplement, Original Ford 289 K code Hi-Po owners supplement and Original Ford 1965 Mustang owners manual. Other original documents an owner would have received upon purchase of a 1965 Shelby include an original Koni shock absorber brochure, original Detroit Locker rear differential paperwork and an original white paper owners folio to store all the 1965 paperwork in.
5S329 also has an airtight verifiable owner history with the original owner buying the car new in Jacksonville Florida from Lynch Davidson Motors then selling the car in 1972 to an Orlando resident who kept it for three years and sold it to another Orlando resident in 1975 who kept it until 1993 when it was sold to Jacky Jones we became the fifth owners after purchasing it from Jacky on December 22, 2004.
Our thanks to Bob Perkins and Jacky Jones for their invaluable help in making Mustang history.
