For 1998 Dodge announced that it would manufacture a factory built special edition street legal GTS-R to be known as the GT2. To commemorate Dodge's 1997 FIA GT2 manufacturer and driver championships Dodge built 100 street legal replicas of the Viper GTS/R race car. All GT2's were painted white with blue stripes like the race car and featured a large wing on the back, carbon fiber air-splitters and side sills ground effects. Special one piece 18 inch BBS lace wheels in painted silver were used along with 18 inch Michelin pilot MXX3 tires.

Inside, the interior featured blue accent trim on the seats, center console and door panels. Red five point harnesses with ORECA race team labels and a dash plaque with the serial number of the car. The GT2 was rated at 460 HP with 500 pounds of torque.

While most commemorative models are just sticker and badge jobs the GT2 offers quite a bit more than graphics. Project manager John Fernandez ensured that the GT2's aerodynamic pieces were manufactured by the original suppliers to the racing GTS/R's and are the same kind as found on the racing Vipers. In fact the front splitter and winglets are from the first years race car. The rear wing is patterned after the race cars wing but is not adjustable and is set at a zero angle.

Under the hood the intake tubes were straightened, the airbox revised with low restriction K&N filters replacing the stock units bumping HP by 10 to 460. Making it the most powerful Viper ever built for it's time.

GT2's came with a special factory car cover to fit over the wing with the cars VIN number embroidered on it and each car had a disposable camera with undeveloped film capturing the assembly line of the car. Dodge also provided new GT2 owners with three color lithographs of the GTS/R contained in a beautiful carrying case and autographed and serialized photo's of the Team Oreca race drivers.

It will be difficult for future Viper restorers to find a high mile GT2 and restore it, since the unique parts to the GT2 are no longer available. The VINS on the GT2's run in sequence from 0 to 100. We are the original owners of this rare car which is GT2 #008

Number 008 has traveled 59 miles since new and is still on the MSO with the window sticker( Monroney) still affixed to the window.
